Reclaiming Saint John

Today’s Saint John is a city where neglect, economic hardship, and developer indifference have contributed to the demolition of much of its noteworthy building stock. That which survives, assuming this pattern continues, is therefore imperiled. Though Saint John is best known for its iconic sites, such as the City Market, Loyalist Plaza, Prince William Street, Kings Square, Partridge Island and the Reversing Falls, little attention has been paid to the parallel narratives embedded in its abandoned churches, factories, variegated residential districts, or its integral industries and their relation to the landscape. I am interested in the documenting the totality of the city, as an organism, in my contemporary consideration of its architecture and site.
